The Board of Directors is responsible for the overall functioning of the organisation. The main roles of the Board are:
Set the strategic direction
Develop policy
Ensure compliance
Monitoring performance, and
Appoint and work with the Executive Officer
Activities
The main activities undertaken by the Board are:
Ensuring the Strategic Plan is implemented
Ensuring policies are adhered to
Approving variations to priorities, budget or strategies
Monitoring income and expenditure against budget
Adopting clearly defined delegations of authority, and
Engage with the members.
Directors
The Board consists of 7 Directors
Dr Debra Wilson Chairman (Primary Director) joined the Board in November 2000. She has been Chairman since October 2005. She works at Grantham Street General Practice Brunswick West. Debra is an independent director for the purposes of the Corporations Act.
Dr Stephen Williams (Primary Director) joined the Board in December 2001. He has been Chair of the Audit, Finance & Compliance Committee since October 2005. He is a full-time GP at Evans Street Clinic in Sunbury. Stephen is an independent director for the purposes of the Corporations Act.
Dr Amjad Hussain (Primary Director) joined the Board in October 2003. He was previously on the Board from 1994 to 2001. Amjad practices at Your Family Health Clinic in Airport West. He currently represents divisions on the Board of Australian General Practice Network.
Ms Rose Bryant-Smith (Associate Director) joined the Board of Directors in December 2010.
Dr Marilyn Jones (Primary Director) joined the Board of Directors in November 1998. She practices at Margaret Street Clinic in Moonee Ponds.
Mr Keith Brown (Associate Director) Joined the Board in October 2009. His professional roles have included: Commissioner, National Occupational Health and Safety Commission, National Convenor, Heads of Workplace Safety and Compensation Authorities and Presiding Officer Ministerial Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Advisory Committee. Keith is an independent director for the purposes of the Corporations Act.
Dr Kannan Subramaniam (Associate Director) Joined the Board in October 2009. Kannan chairs the Strategic Committee. He co-chairs the Mental Health Working Group for International Medical Informatics Association, and is an editorial board member for both Electronic Journal of Health Informatics and Journal of Health Care & Informatics Online. Kannan is an independent director for the purposes of the Corporations Act.
