Practice Accreditation

 Print

Accreditation against the RACGP Standards for General Practices provides external evaluation of the practice to ensure a safe, high quality service is provided to the patient. Accreditation provides patients with a degree of confidence in their general practice. Since 1 January 2006, all Practices registering for accreditation have been assessed against the 3rd Edition of the Standards.

Accreditation is a requirement to qualify for the Commonwealth Government’s Practice Incentive Program (PIP). Payments made to practices through this program are in addition to other income, such as patient payments and Medicare rebates. There are two Accreditation bodies to choose from QIP/AGPAL and GPA ACCREDITATION plus. See our Accreditation Bodies page for further details.

Practices can request a basic or comprehensive pre survey visit to assess your practices’ readiness. Bookings are essential for these services

Basic Pre Survey Visit

consists of a brief review of Practice Facilities, Sterilisation and Infection Control Processes and Vaccine Management.  It takes about 30 – 60 minutes. This is a free service to practices within the boundaries.

Comprehensive Pre Survey Visit

consists of all items in the Basic Pre Survey plus a Documentation and Contracts Review, S8 Drugs Audit, GP and Staff Competencies, Staff or GP interview, Pathology Management Review, and review of Security of Electronic Medical Records.

Please note this type of visit can take up 4 hours and should be done well in advance of your proposed survey visit to allow time to fix any issues. An hourly rate is charged and bookings are essential. Practices within the boundaries receive a discount.
